This assignment is a platform for in-depth research into your selected architect. You are asked to thoroughly examine the ‘paradigm/s’ that your architect is operating within and in preparation for AT3 your research should focus on their design philosophy and methodology. Some suggested areas of research include, but are not limited to:
• Ideas, ideals and philosophy
• Sources of inspiration
• Design development and working methods
• Spatial organisation and composition of form
• Functionality and architectural narrative
• Poetic and practical use of Analogy and Metaphor
• Tectonic, phenomenological and experiential qualities
• Structural logic and construction methodology
• Material selection and approach to detailing
• Climatic considerations
• Treatment of light
• Relation to landscape and place You are encouraged to include images within the body of the text (ensure you refer to these throughout your paper); these may include diagrams, sketches, photographs, drawings; all images must be referenced correctly. The papers are assessed on the completeness and intellectual quality of the arguments, on the level of written and graphic communication, as well as on the analytical and critical thought. Please review the assessment rubric as this provides valuable information on how your paper will be assessed. The final text should be 2500 words (variations of +/- 10% will not be penalized). Bibliography and citations are not included in the word count. Please ensure the following is included in your submission:
• Cover page with Title for the paper and word count
• Each page is to have a header with the student’s name and “ARCH13-120, 2016 ” and footer with page numbers
• Title that as sufficiently as possible expresses the subject matter discussed in the paper
• Introduction with basic information and foci of the paper
• main text bulk with visual and written analyses of the topic
• Conclusions with strong argumentation referring to evidence found in the research
• Citations and a Bibliography in the Harvard Style.
