Child Development and Learning: Demonstration Lesson Plan
Demonstration Lesson Plan Instructions
NOTE:
Given the circumstances, this presentation can be implemented with either children or your family members.
1. You will develop and “present” a lesson that teaches young children (ages 3-5) about a topic related to this class. Topics can be related to skin tones, similarities and differences, culture, language, food (bread from different countries, etc) clothing (hats from different countries), traditions, holidays (“Dia Del Los Muertos”, “Day of the Dead”), etc.
Please be creative. There are many examples in your Roots and Wings textbook starting on page 191. Please don’t copy the exact activities rather, think of creative ways to teach young children to resist bias and become more accepting of people around them. Please note that use of coloring pages and ditto sheets are not acceptable and are not developmentally appropriate. Activities must be engaging, thought provoking and stimulating.
YOU WILL USE THE DEMONSTRATION LESSON PLAN FORMAT PROVIDED IN YOUR MODULE
2. If you can, please implement your Lesson Plan with at least one or two children, ages 2 ½ to 8 years old or with your family members.
3. Prepare and use all of the materials with the participants that you listed in your lesson plan. Start with your Introductory Statement, use your Teacher Language Interaction, and Transition Statement.
4. Take 4 photographs: (1) the materials that you will be using with the children, (2) the overall setup, (3) picture that shows your participants and (4) picture of you presenting the activity:))
After your implementation, reflect on your experience by answering the following questions:
- How did the activity go, from your perspective, and from the children’s perspective?
- What are some things that the children said and did? (Write quotations)
- What are some things that you said and did? (Write quotations)
- What were the strengths of the activity?
- If you were to do this activity again, what changes would you make?
Packet must include the following
1. Your typed Lesson Plan (using the provided format)
2. Your self-evaluation / reflection
