Read the Ritzer text pp. 26-27 on Marx and Weber.
1- Explain how Weber’s theory may be viewed as a reaction to Marxist tendencies toward “economic determinism” in relation to other areas of society (e.g., ideas, religion)
2- Explain how Weber’s theory may be seen as an attempt to “round-out” Marx’ view on social stratification (inequality)
II. Read Ritzer on Verstehen, pp. 116-17, and Social Action, pp. 125-27 and the following video

3- Give a definition of social action and then give a concrete example of human behavior that (a) would NOT be considered social action according to Weber, and (b) behavior that would be understood as social action
III. Read Ritzer p. 119 and the videos below on Ideal Types

4- Explain what Weber meant by an Ideal Type and how it was used to understand society, conceptually
IV. Watch the video below regarding the four (4) Ideal Types of Social Action

5- Define and give a concrete example for each of Weber’s four (4) Ideal Types of Social Action
