YOU MUCH WATCH A VIDEO TO DO ASSIGNMENT https://fullerton.sharestream.net/mediacloud/#/lms/embed/play/8a038e8876ca3f9e0176e42beddd0216/8a8082a8638be4e601641f5beb8e04e4/000/4e94d2db-45ca-4ef8-8ef4-9df3639f666d (if video link does not work I will provide log in info) I have uploaded PowerPoints I can give access to my online textbook if needed (kindle app) Overview You will watch a 20-minute video, A Private Universe, which is available at the end of this page. The video focuses on a 9th grade student learning about the changing seasons and phases of the moon in her science class. You will use course material to analyze her learning experience, identify obstacles to her learning, and suggest recommendations to the teacher. Below are specific guidelines regarding what you must address in your paper. If you need any clarification on the assignment, please ask. Guidelines Read ALL parts of the guidelines carefully before watching the video. Read them multiple times before writing and submitting the paper. Failure to address all parts of the paper guidelines may significantly lower your grade. Prompt Address the following prompts, making reference to specific behaviors or events in the video. You must show depth in your analysis and include an introduction, body, and conclusion. You must address EITHER (A) OR (B) – you may not choose both. (A)Analyze Heather’s cognitive development using concepts from Vygotsky’s theory, including scaffolding (What examples did you see? Was the scaffolding effective?), the zone of proximal development (Are the different astronomy concepts in Heather’s zpd? How do you know this?), and cultural tools (What tools were used? How did these tools shape Heather’s understanding of astronomy concepts?). (B)Analyze Heather’s cognitive development using concepts from Piaget’s theory, including both equilibration and cognitive stages. At what point(s) did Heather experience disequilibrium? How did she resolve the disequilibrium (assimilation, accommodation)? Which of Piaget’s stages best reflects Heather’s cognitive development? How do you know this? How might her cognitive stage have influenced her learning? Everyone must also address the following: Based on your theoretical analysis and course material, what recommendations do you have for the teacher to help Heather learn the specific concepts that she still misunderstands in the second interview? She still isn’t sure where the moon is during the different phases and she still doesn’t understand the concept of indirect light. How would you suggest the teacher help her understand both of those concepts? Be specific and be sure to tie your recommendations directly to both your analysis (requirement a or b above) and related course material. In other words, if you choose option (a) above, your recommendations must be based on Vygotsky’s theory. If you choose (b), your recommendations must be based on Piaget’s theory. Remember that you need to come up with specific recommendations for the teacher to use now that she has already watched all of the interview videos. You are not to explain what she should have done differently in the lesson that she already completed. You are to explain what she needs to do in the next lesson in order to help Heather, specifically (not the entire class).   Helpful Hints You may assume I have seen the video (because I have – lots of times!), so please do not spend valuable page space providing lengthy summaries of what happened. You still need to be specific when analyzing what happened in the video, but you do not need to provide a review of everything that occurred. HOWEVER, you should pretend I know nothing about the course material you are using for your analysis. You need to explain the concepts to me in your own words while applying them to your analysis. Your explanation of course material and analysis of the video should be integrated. In other words, do not spend an entire paragraph summarizing the theory. Explain the concepts while you are using them to analyze Heather. Citations You must cite page numbers each time you incorporate information from the textbook, and lecture video titles each time you incorporate information from lecture. You must use the textbook – you may not rely entirely on lectures. Only cite lectures if you are referring to material that is not also covered in the text (or the coverage in the text is more limited than in lecture). Please cite sources within the text of your paper as follows: From the book: (Woolfolk, p. 231) From a lecture: (Vygotsky(2): ZPD) You do not need to provide a reference list, and you may only use the text and lecture as sources. You do not need to cite the video or time-markers in the video when you refer to it in your paper. Failure to cite appropriately will reduce your paper grade by up to 5 points.      Formatting Requirements 3-4 double-spaced pages (note that 4 pages is a strict maximum) Times New Roman 12-point font and 1” margins You MUST include a title page in APA style that includes your CWID, paper title (please come up with your own unique title for the paper), date, and the course number. Do not put your name on the title page or anywhere else on the document. The title page does not count towards the 4 page maximum. Submit your paper as a .pdf file (Links to an external site.); no other file types will be accepted. Do not put your name in the document file name. Failure to meet each of the formatting requirements listed above will lower your grade 2 points per item. For example, if your paper grade is 90 but you went over 4 pages (-2) and used the wrong font (-2), your grade will be reduced to 86.
