INTRODUCTION
The Independent Capstone Project (ICP) is the primary requirement of HCAD 984 Seminar in Healthcare Administration. The ICP is an internship-focused, research-based project which each student must successfully complete to demonstrate that they have earned a Master in Healthcare Administration from Framingham State University. Students will apply elements from throughout their curriculum in a workplace or community setting to show original and critical thinking, research design, and well-supported recommendations. These will be complemented by a formal presentation in writing (APA) and a poster presentation at a conference-type setting.
Students must choose a topic or select an issue which can: 1) directly be impacted by a healthcare administrator, especially one in a leadership position, 2) aid in their future professional development, and 3) be set at their current place of employment, but may not be tied into current paid responsibilities. Students will identify a topic with the course instructor, who will serve as their ICP faculty advisor, and with their internship preceptor, who will provide oversight on behalf of FSU during the ICP. Identifying a proper internship and suitable project is time consuming and may be frustrating. Use your professional and academic networks to identify ideas. The seminar, especially the on-campus meetings, will provide support for students’ work on the Independent Capstone Project. *TOPIC SUGGESTION* I was thinking of the topic being healthcare inequalities in the state of Massachusetts focusing on housing, food, security, and access to care.
