The relationship between at-risk communities and crime

The social ecology school highlights the relationship between at-risk communities and crime.  A strong sense of community, collective efficacy, and social altruism can guard against a wide array of social problems, even amongst the poorest neighbourhoods. For this week’s discussion, re-read the relevant sections of the text on pages 208-214 (230-237 of the 5th edition).  Once you have reviewed the central tenets of the social ecology approach, please answer the following questions:

Firstly, What are the community-level factors that contribute to higher crime rates? Secondly,  In your answer, be sure to include and highlight the key terms/concepts and components in pages 208-214.

Thirdly,  Based on this ecological analysis and perspective, what can be done to improve community life and minimize the risk of crime?

Fourthly, What efforts ought to be prioritized or do you consider most important in ameliorating the symptoms of community disorganization?

Further, Can you find and provide a link to a program, project, or community effort that has aimed to achieve the goals you outlined above (question 2) in London (or if unable to find an example particular to London, can you find an example in Ontario? or Canada?).

Also, If you are unable to find a concrete example, please hypothesize some of the reasons that such efforts are not readily found/applied.

4.  Write a short conclusion.  While there is no minimum length requirement for these conclusion , please aim for more than a mere one-sentence, superficial response.  Your reply ought to be thorough and thoughtful, showcasing your critical thinking skills and evidencing your knowledge and understanding of the assigned readings. Remember to be respectful
